Our Own Worst Enemy

Pride.
It’s something we have all struggled with at one time or another. We don’t like to admit it, but we lack humility. Pride is the result of our belief that we are entitled to something, and that we are deserving. When in reality we aren’t entitled to anything at all, and if we got what we deserved we would not receive the love, grace, or forgiveness of God. Pride leads to anger. Whether we have pride because we “control” a situation, or we have pride in our abilities, we are bound to be sorely disappointed. Soon enough the situation will not go our way, that happens to make us realize that we really have no control and everything is in the hands of our father. With talents and abilities the phrase remains true, “the pride comes before the fall”. We are our own worst enemy when pride fills our lives. Anger will fill our lives when pride is present, but with humility our lives will be filled with joy unspeakable.

Obadiah‬ ‭1‬:‭3-4‬ You have been deceived by your own pride because you live in a rock fortress and make your home high in the mountains. ‘Who can ever reach us way up here?’ you ask boastfully. But even if you soar as high as eagles and build your nest among the stars, I will bring you crashing down,” says the LORD.

Dear God, help us to be a humble people that are striving to become more like Jesus everyday. Don’t let our pride get in our way of living a fulfilled life for you. We love you and praise you for everything you have given us. Help us reflect your love through our gifts and talents. In Jesus name, Amen
